يعالج معجم "الأفعال الثلاثية المضاعفة" للدكتور الياس عطا الله دراسة اثنتي عشرة قضية هي: عدد الأفعال المضاعفة، عدد أبواب الفعل الواحد، إهمال باب فَرِحَ يفرحُ، قياسهم بأن المتعدي من باب نَصَرَ، واللازم من باب ضَرَبَ، الأفعال التي جاءت على ثلاثة أبواب أو أربعة، المتعدي بواسطة الحرف أو الظرف، كَرُمَ يَكْرُم من المضاعف، فَتَحَ يفتح، من المضاعف، حَسِبَ يحسب من المضاعف، الأفعال المخالفة لأقيسة العربية في علم الأصوات، المضاعف وحقوله الدلالية.
إن الغاية الأساسية من هذا المعجم هي الدراسة الإحصائية التي ترصد جملة من القضايا والتساؤلات أهمها: عدد الأفعال المضاعفة، وما تغير فيه منذ "العين" حتى "تاج العروس" وما صُنّفَ بعده من معاجم ... ومدى صحة أو خطأ ما يورده أصحابها من أقيسة في حركة عين الفعل، وعلاقتها باللزوم والتعدّي ... ناهيك بتوزيع الأفعال الثلاثية المجردة على ستة أبواب وفق حركة عينها في الماضي والمضارع.
وبالرغم من أن المعاجم الكلاسيكية أضحت محوسبة، ومن أن بعض الدارسين والناشرين عُنوا بفهرسة المواد اللغوية، فإن الباحث والأستاذ والطالب يجد في هذا المعجم – الدراسة يسراً في الوصول إلى ضالته؛ وفائدة كبيرة في أسلوب البحث والنتائج الجديدة المترتبة عليه.
