وقد قصدت في هذا المعجم إلى جمع الاستعمالات التراثية من بطون المعاجم العربية، والاستعمالات المعاصرة من المعاجم الحديثة، ومن مصادر مطبوعة مثل الصحف والكتب؛ بغية حصر دلالات هذه الأفعال التي ارتضاها القدماء في معاجمهم من ناحية، ورصد الدلالات الجديدة الناتجة عن تطور اللغة الحية المتحركة، المؤثرة المتأثرة من ناحية أخرى؛ فيرتبط الماضي بالحاضر، والقديم بالحديث في نسيج واحد.
