الرواية الثالثة من الثلاثية تستكمل قصة حياة "أنهر" وزوجها آدم، حيث الهروب من "طاعون الشرق" سعياً إلى الحياة، إلى الأمل، إلى أرضٍ جديدة تنتظرهم في الضفة الأخرى من العالم، وأناس على غير لونهم، يجهلونهم، يجهلون لغتهم، أعرافهم، أخلاقهم... كانت الأجواء بالنسبة لهم غريبة، موحشة، الأضواء منتشرة في الأرجاء، السينمات وأفلامها المباحة المكشوفة التي لا تحب الستر أو التحجب، المقاهي، الناس، كل شيء يصرخ من الأعماق صائحاً: أنا على قيد الحياة. وفي بلد تسطع في سمائه الحرية والمساواة والعدل. من تلك الصورة تشكلت لهم خيوط نسيج حياتهم الجديدة التي من أجلها تركوا كل شيء خلفهم ظانين بأنهم سيحققون ذواتهم على غير الأرض التي ولدوا عليها... فهل ستتحقق أحلامهم في الغُربة؟ أم سيكون طريقهم الوهم؟.
