تأتي أهمية موسوعة الحاوي في الطب للرازي، تلك التي انتهيت في تحقيقي لها على مدار خمس عشرة سنة إلى العديد من الفوائد الجمة التي تخدم تاريخ الطب العربي الإسلامي فحسب، بل تاريخ الطب الإنساني كله، ومنها أنها تحتوي على أوراق ومتون كتب من الحضارات السابقة على الحضارة الإسلامية، كالحضارة الهندية، والحضارة الفارسية، والحضارة اليونانية، وأيضًا الحضارة العربية الإسلامية.
وكنت قد آليت على نفسي أن أستخرج كل ما حفظه الرازي في الحاوي من نصوص الأمم السابقة على الإسلام، وكذلك نصوص أطباء الحضارة الإسلامية، وقد ابتدأت بالحضارة اليونانية، وأصدرت فيها كتابين.
وفي هذا الكتاب أحاول أن أميط اللثام عما حفظه الرازي في الحاوي لأحد أعلام الطب في الحضارة الإسلامية، وهو حنين بن إسحق العبادي، فكيف تعامل الرازي مع نصوص حنين الطبية؟ ما الطريقة التي دونها بها في الحاوي؟ ما الحجم الحقيقي لمؤلفات حنين في حاوي الرازي؟ ما القيمة العلمية والمعرفية والتاريخية لما دونه الرازي من نصوص حنين في الحاوي؟
