زهرة اللّوتس تتفتّح ازهارها مع الصّباح، وتُغلِق بتلاتها مع حلول الظّلام، ذات ليل هبّت عاصفة وحملت شوكةً إلى زهرة اللّوتس، وبدأت تخز بتلاتها بإبرها الحادّة.
وقد خافت اللّوتس على نفسها كثيراً، فمتى تشرق الشّمس تتفتّح بتلاتها وتتمزَّق بسبب وجود الشّوكة، فماذا حصل لزهرة اللّوتس؟... هل تمزّقَت بتلاتها أم نجت؟...
