يدور موضوع هذه الدراسة حول الأديب الفاطمي أبي عبد الله الحسين بن علي بن محمد بن ممويه المعروف بابن القم الزبيدي ورسالته في المديح والاستعطاف التي كتبها إلى السلطان أبي حمير سبأ بن أحمد الصليحي اليماني المتوفي 492هـ، وهو يأتي في إطار ما أبذل من جهد في سبيل إماطة اللثام عن النصوص الأدبية العالية التي تزخر بها أمهات مصادر التاريخ والتراجم رجاء وضعها في بؤرة الدرس الأدبي والنقدي.
ولقد قرأت الرسالة فأعجبتني ووجدتها جديرة ببحث مستقل لأنها تدل على ثقافة كاتبها، وتعطي قارئها انطباعًا جيدًا عن فن الترسل في اليمن في القرن الخامس الهجري، ولأن المرسل، والمرسل إليه كليهما مجهولان غير معروفين، ولأن نص الرسالة قد شابه كثير من الخلل والاضطراب في المصادر التاريخية التي احتفظت به جاءت فصول الدراسة كالتالي:
الفصل الأول: المرسل "ابن القم ونتاجه الأدبي"، الفصل الثاني: المرسل إليه "سبأ بن أحمد الصليحي ونشاطه السياسي والديني"، الفصل الثالث: رسالة المديح والاستعطاف "صناعة وتحقيق"، الفصل الرابع: التناص والتحويل النصي في رسالة المديح والاستعطاف.
