تنبع أهمية الدراسة إنطلاقاً من قول الكواكبي ،إنه لا بد من البحث عن الداء ومعرفته لكي يتم وضع وصفة صحيحة للدواء، وهذا ينطبق على موضوع هذه الدراسة، فهي تقوم على رصد أصول الإستبداد العربي من الناحية النظرية، وذلك من خلال إستنباطها من المظاهر الإستبدادية، ومن خلال كتابات أطّرتها وفي بعض الأحيان بررتها.
هذه الدراسة تسعى إلى حسم إشكالية وجود إستبداد عربي أم عدمه، كما تسعى إلى معرفة ماهية الأصول التي بلورته، وإلى أي مدى يوجد علاقة بين الحاكم في تكريس الإستبداد، ومعرفة ماهية إتجاهات الأصول الإستبدادية، وهل هي أصيلة كجوهر للذات العربية، أم أنه تم إستيرادها، وإلى تحديد مدى إسهام فهم النص أو تأويله في تعزيز الإستبداد.
