نفطويه (244 - 323 هـ = 858 - 935 م)
إبراهيم بن محمد بن عرفة الأزدي العتكي، أبو عبد الله، من أحفاد المهلب ابن أبي صفرة: إمام في النحو.
وكان فقيها، رأسا في مذهب داود، مسندا في الحديث ثقة، قال ابن حجر: جالس الملوك والوزراء، وأتقن حفظ السيرة ووفيات العلماء، مع المروءة والفتوة والظرف.
ولد بواسط (بين البصرة والكوفة) ومات ببغداد وكان على جلالة قدره تغلب عليه سذاجة الملبس، فلا يعنى بإصلاح نفسه.
وكان دميم الخلقة، يؤيد مذهب (سيبويه) في النحو فلقبوه (نفطويه) ونظم الشعر ولم يكن بشاعر، وإنما كان من تمام أدب الأديب في عصره أن يقول الشعر.
سمى له ابن النديم وياقوت عدة كتب، منها (كتاب التاريخ) و (غريب القرآن و (كتاب الوزراء) و (أمثال القرآن) ولا نعلم عن أحدها خبرا
