نحاول في هذا الكتاب أنْ نبلور مدخْل نظري ومعرفي لظاهرة أو مشكلة من أبرز إشكاليات الفكر العربي المعاصر بل لأبرز مُعضلة من معضّلات العالم العربي والإسلامي اليوم، لما تحمله من ثروة فكرية غنية ومادة حية للمطاولة والمشاغلة والاستمرار في ضخ دماءها في "معركة الأفكار" حتى النهاية، ألا وهي الظاهرة الإسلامية، أمام ظاهرة أشد خطورة وقوة وهيمنة ونفوذ مثل الظاهرة العلمانية؛ كخصم ماثل، الأمر الذي أدى إلى إحداث قطيعة تاريخية بين النص والواقع، الدين والدولة، الإسلام والسياسة، العروبة والإسلام، وهو ما دفع الغرابة لفاعلية ونشاط تلك الظاهرة الدينية مما استدعى منا تقديمها بتعريفات متنوعة وتبيان أسبابها، وعوامل ظهورها، خصوصاً وإنْها فعلٍ مبتدع من الإسلام، لا تختلف عن الدولة أو السياسة من حيث غيابها أو تجاهلها في النص الديني (القرآني)؛ وماهية ملامحها، ونواتجها على الفعل العربي المعاصر كوقائع ملموسة، وما هي أسباب اخفاقها وانحسارها، كفرضية بحثية منا لاضمحلالها في حال توفر ثمة شروط ستكون جزء من دراستنا، وبالتالي فإن الظاهرة الإسلامية تستحق العناية العلمية الفائقة والاهتمام البحثي والدراسة المعمقة، فهي ليس حالة طارئة على المجتمع خصوصاً بعد زخم الثورة الايرانية، واحتلال بغداد وقيام ما يُسمى بثورات الربيع العربي، وقبل كل شيء يجب أنْ يعي العقل العربي اليوم حقيقة تكن بمثابة "قيرّاط في أذنه" بإنْ الدين ليس الظاهرة الإسلامية، كما وليس هو الحركات الدينية، ولا هو الفكر الديني؛ ومن أجل هذا نكتب بحرية، وانتقادنا للظاهرة الإسلامية لا دخل له بالإسلام أو التشكيك بالعقيدة الروحية، فكلنا مسلمون وهذا فخرنا وعزنا، لكن لسنا كلنا إسلاميون، أنا مسلم وليس إسلامي بمعنى إني لم ولن أنتم لحركة أو حزب ديني، وأنا اكتب بقلم مُحصن من لوّثة الأيديولوجيا.
