أنحنى نصف انحناءة، وتسلل بأصباعه إلى شئ ما أمامه فإذا به عصوفر يلفه الزغب، رفعه إلى فمه، وشوشه، ثم جففه بكم جلبابه ودفع به إلى عشه.
لما تبدت له شمس الغروب فى حنائها، لمع قلبه إذ ترسمه برقة فى قلب الغسق، أصابع يده التى من ورقة سرو، وتبدى وجهه الطفل يقلقه إحساس متوحش فى جسده الذى من شجرة توت.
مشى وعشب أخضر قد نما على جسده كله، ولما رفرفت عيناه فى الأفق كان سر قلبه يطل من نظراتهما، ومضى بروحه الظامى يتبع هاجس صبوته، وحيداً يتمزق فى اختلاجاته وهو يتابع البعد الحلزونى للطيور.
