يمثل تراثنا العربي مَعلماً حضارياً في حياتنا الثقافية، ذلك أن هذا التراث يعبر عن رغبة أهله في المشاركة بصياغة الفكر الإنساني، وهو ما دفع الباحث الأستاذ عبد العزيز إبراهيم إلى الإسهام في هذه الصياغة واختيار شاعر إسلامي مخضرم (قيس بن عمرو) المعروف بـ (النجاشي الحارثي): توفي / 50ه) والذي جال في الساحة الشعرية مناقضاً لبعض الشعراء في القرن الهجري الأول، وقد سجّل – كما سيتبين من هذه الدراسة – مشاركة جلية في أحداث هذه الحقبة، سياسياً وإجتماعياً، وذلك باتخاذه موقفاً يتسم بالإلتزام والدفاع عما يؤمن به. فقد اتخذ النجاشي (الهجاء) عرضاً يكاد يغطي ما وصل إلينا من شعره.
تتألف الدراسة من قسمين: القسم الأول عن حياة الشاعر، والقسم الثاني عن شعره. أما أهمية الدراسة فتكمن من مكانة الشاعر النجاشي الشعرية. فللنجاشي مكانة في الشعر العربي امتدت من العصر الجاهلي حتى أوائل الدولة الأموية، فقد عُرّف شاعراً في الجاهلية من خلال أسواق العرب التي كانت تقام في عكاظ ومجنة وذي المجاز وغيرها. وفي هذه الأسواق (كان الشعراء يعرضون قصائدهم في الفخر والمباهاة أو الذم ولم يكن يظهر ذلك بأقل من حظ البيع والشراء). وفي هذا يقول النجاشي: (فرَّ ابن حسّان ذي المجاز) .
وعلى هذا يجمع مؤلف الكتاب كل ما ورد إلينا من شعر النجاشي، وقد توصل كما يقول إلى ما يتجاوز أربعمائة وعشرين بيتاً توزعت على سبعين مقطعة، وعمد إلى تخريج اشعاره معتمداً على مظانه الأدبية والتأريخية، ووزع المقطعات الشعرية حسب حروف الهجاء الساكنة، وضبط النص الشعري بالإعتماد على مصادره الأصلية، وشرح اللفاظ، وحذف بعض الألفاظ التي لا يليق ذكرها، وكذلك حذف بعض أسماء الشخصيات التي تعرض لها الشاعر في هجائه، كما نبّه على الشعر المتدافع بين الشاعر وشعراء آخرين حسب ما ذكر في مصدر التخريج ...
