إطلالة شاملة على قرن كامل من الوقائع الروحية والدموية البارزة بكل أمجادها ومآسيها، واستعراض تاريخي لأحداث بسطها أمامنا شوقي أفندي رباني لمسيرة قرن من الزمان غرق فيه الشرق والغرب في الظلام والحروب والأمجاد والاضطرابات، ووضع تلك الأحداث التاريخية في ملابساتها الصحيحة منذ دعوة الباب الشيرازي في 23 أيَّار 1844م حتّى عام 1944م. وبهذه الرؤية التاريخية دوّن ولي أمر الله بين دفّتي هذا الكتاب وقائع وحقائق هي الأثمن والأدق من بين المدونات التاريخية المتعلقة بنشوء الديانة البهائية، وهو ما يُغني الباحث والقارئ الذي يسعى لمعرفة نشوء هذه الديانة وحقيقتها التاريخية الحافلة بالمآسي من جهة، وانتشار تعاليم ديانة معاصرة في مدة قرن من الزمان من جهة أخرى. ويمكن للقارئ أن يرى عبر هذه الوثيقة مراحل تشكل الديانة البهائية من العصر الرسولي لدين بهاء الله، الذي افتتح بإعلان الباب الشيرازي دعوته، ويتضمن حقبة ظهور بهاء الله كلّها،. أمّا العصر الثّاني فيبدأ بألواح الوصايا التي حدّدت طبيعة هذا الدين ووضعت أسسه. وأمّا العصر الثّالث الممتد ما بين 1892 إلى 1921 فيدور حول شخصيّة عبد البهاء السّامية وهو عصر يبدأ بإعلان عهد بهاء الله وميثاقه، لعبد البهاء وتسلمه القيادة الدينية، وأمّا المدة الرّابعة فتمتد من 1921 إلى 1944 وهي مرحلة وارث الديانة ولي أمر الله شوقي أفندي رباني الذي كتب لنا القرن البديع، وهو من أهمّ آثاره الكتابيّة خلال 36 سنة من عمره 1921-1957 الّتي قضاها وليًّا للأمر البهائيّ.
