تضمّ سلسلة الفكر المسيحي بين الأمس واليوم مجموعة من المؤلفات القديمة والحديثة، التي تبحث في مختلف أبعاد الإيمان المسيحي، وتفسّر مختلف مواضيع العقيدة المسيحية تفسيراً يتلاءم ومقتضيات العصر ويجيب على الأسئلة التي طرحها الفكر الإنساني على مدى العصور. وتجمع هذه السلسلة كتباً مؤلفة مباشرة باللغة العربية، وكتباً مترجمة من مؤلفات كبار المفكرين واللاهوتيين القدماء والمعاصرين.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا يدخل ضمن هذه السلسلة وهو يمثل الجزء الثالث من كتاب "ينبوع المعرفة" للقديس يوحنا الدمشقي، آخر آباء الكنيسة الشرقية (675-749). ففي الجزء الأول من تلك الموسوعة اللاهوتية يعالج القديس "علم الفلسفة والمنطق"، وفي الجزء الثاني يسرد تاريخ معظم الهرطقات. وهذان الجزءان هما بمثابة مقدمة للجزء الثالث الذي يعتبر الأهمّ من تلك الموسوعة، وفيه يعرض الدمشقي لمعظم عقائد الإيمان المسيحي: الله الواحد، الأقانيم الثلاثة، الخلق، الملائكة، العالم، الإنسان، سرّ الخلاص أو التجسد الإلهي، الإيمان، قيامة الأموات، تكريم الإيقونات والقديسين.
لقد كانت "المئة مقالة" على مدى العصور، ولا سيما في الشرق المسيحي، الكتاب الأكثر استعمالاً لدراسة اللاهوت. وقد اقتبس منها ومن منهجيتها اللاهوت الغربي منذ القرون الوسطى. وتتميز هذه المقالات بأنها توجز بوضوح الفكر اللاهوتي لآباء الكنيسة الشرقية منذ القرون الأولى حتى القرن السابع.
إن هذا الكتاب قد تُرجم مراراً في القرون السابقة إلى اللغة العربية إلا أن تلك الترجمات لا تزال كلها مخطوطة. إنها المرة الأولى التي يُنشر فيها هذا الكتاب مطبوعاً باللغة العربية.
