مازالت الزراعة - وستظل - قاعدة الإقتصادى المصرى، ففيها يعيش غالبية السكان - أكثر من 60% - ويعمل بها ويتعيش عليها الجانب الأكبر من المجتمع، وتعطى المواد الخام للصناعة، كما أنها تقدم نحو 20% من الناتج المحلى الإجمالى، وهى التى أعانت الشعب المصرى على الإستمرار. والفترات التى تدنت فيها الزراعة تدنى الإقتصاد القومى والعكس صحيح ومن ثم نحن فى غنى عن التأكيد على أهمية ودور الزراعة وضرورة الإهتمام بها عامة.
ومازالت الزراعة المصرية، أمامها الكثير، ومن الممكن أن تعطى الكثير ونجيب على سؤال حول إمكانية تحقيق إكتفاء ذاتى من السلع الغذائية الأساسية (القمح - السكر - الزيوت).
وقد جاءت هذه الفصول جميعها تصب فى ميدان التنمية الزراعية بدءاً من واقع الزراعة المصرية / ثم إستراتيجية التنمية الزراعية فى المرحلة القادمة / الزراعة وتحرير الإقتصاد القومى / التكيف الهيكلى المستقبلى للزراعة المصرية / مستقبل إدارة القطاع الزراعى والتنمية / السوق الشرق أوسطية والزراعى العربية / مستقبل استخدام الموارد الطبيعية فى الوطن العربى (الموارد الغذائية) / وأخيراً، زيادة إنتاج الغذاء وإنعكاساته البيئية.
ومن ثم يتضح تنوع المواضيع المرتبطة بتنمية الزراعة، ولكل منها أهميته مثل الإدارة، والبيئة، والتكامل، كلها موضوعات ذات أثر على تنمية الزراعة. مع العلم بأن البعض منها فى حاجة إلى دراسات أوسع وأعمق بصورة منفردة، نأمل أن يفيد هذا المؤلف فى دعم التنمية الزراعية.
