درج الباحثون على استخدام التسميات الأربع لنظريات الإعلام وهي السلطوية الشيوعية، الحرية، والمسؤولية الاجتماعية، والباحثة في هذه الدراسة تصدي لتسمية جديدة على أن تشمل ثلاثاً من هذه النظريات وهي النظرية الإنسانية لحرية الصحافة ورغم أن الدراسة لا تتناول تأصيلاً فلسفياً لنظرية الحرية تصفية عامة فإن هناك لمحات في أسس المذهب الإنساني الذي يدعو إلى احترام كرامة الإنسان، والاهتمام برفاهية وتطوره الشامل وراحته الاجتماعية، كذلك فإنها لا تتناول موضوعاً سياسياً صرفاً أو اقتصادياً بحتاً فهي دراسة نظريات الإعلام دون التطبيق، لأنها ترشف من كل نيل لتخرج في النهاية بوصف تحليلي يتخلله النقد، ونوع الحرية التي يتناولها البحث لا تعني تحديداً كمياً لضغوط السيطرة على وسائل الإعلام ودرجتها كما ورد لدى بعض الباحثين ولكن المقصود هو رسم الإطار العام للنظام السياسي وكيفية عمل السلطات، نوعية الاستثمار المتاح، الطابع الثقافي، والتركيب والتحرك الاجتماعي الذي يؤثر بطريقة أو بأخرى على تكوين حجم الضغوط التي يعيشها الصحفي في كل بلد من هذه البلاد كمواطن عادي وكقائم بالاتصال في الوقت نفسه، ولذلك تأخذ هذه الدراسة صورة المقارنة بين ثلاث دول هي التحاد السوفييتي، مصدر تركيب على ضوء متطلبات مواد الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان.
