شملت فروض الإسلام دعوة أتباع الملل الأخرى إلى إعتناق هذا الدين الحنيف، بإعتباره آخر الرسالات السماوية، وقد دخلت أفواجٌ من اليهود والنصارى في دين الإسلام، بعدما عاشوا في ظلِّ دولة الخلافة الإسلامية، وخاصة في القرون الهجرية الأولى.
في هذا الكتاب يتتبع الأستاذ بشير عبد الغني بركات إهتداء بعض اليهود والنصارى وأتباع دياناتٍ أخرى إلى دين الإسلام في بيت المقدس وجوارها، خلال العهد العثماني وما بعده، واستند في ذلك إلى بيانات لسجلات محكمة القدس الشرعية تُغطي المدة (936- 1403هـ / 1529- 1983م).
وبناءً عليه، يوضح المؤلف كيف كانت تتم إجراءات الإشهار وصيغته ومستلزماته مثل إجراء عملية اكتان للذكور، ووضع علامة مميزة على رأس المهتدي (غطاء الرأس) الذي كان يخالف ما كان يرتديه أهل الذمة، ومن ثم أداء فريضة الحج، والصيام وغيرها.
كما يذكر المؤلف مُهتدون كانوا يغدون إلى بيت المقدس لإشهار إسلامهم في محكمتها الشرعية، وآخرون قدموا من حلب الشهباء عام 1133هـ/ 1721م، كما يستعرض وفود عدد من المهتدين من أهالي الشام إلى محكمة القدس لإشهار إسلامهم، وكان بعضهم من موارنة لبنان، مثل وطفة بيت سليم وحنّه بنت طنوس، وسعدى بنت إنطوان عام 1928م حتى أن بعض المهتدين كانوا أعلى ثقافةً، ومنهم المترجمون، الذين كانوا من أصول أوروبية، ثم يبين الكتاب مواقف الكنائس وأعيان النصارى من إشهار الإسلام.
في ضوء ما سبق تم تقسيم محتويات الكتاب إلى العناوين الرئيسية الآتية: 1-إجراءات الإشهار، 2-دوافع إشهار الإسلام، 3-طبقات المُهتدين الإجتماعية والثقافية، 4-إسلام الأطفال والمراهقين، 5-علاقات المهتدين بأبناء دينهم السابق، 6-الزواج بين المهتدين وغيرهم، 7-المُهتدون والحكومة، 8-إهتداءُ النصارى، 9-إهتداء أهالي قرية دير أبان، 10-إهتداء اليهود، 11-إهتداء أتباع دياناتٍ أخرى لم تُعْرَف، 12-الردَّة عن الإسلام، وأخيراً ملحق بأسماء من أسلم من اليهود والنصارى والديانات السابقة وبيانات الزواج بين المهتدين وغيرهم...
