يضم هذا المعجم المزدوج اللغة (إنكليزي- عربي) كماً كبيراً من المصطلحات اللغوية، هذا إلى جانب 16 مسرداً عربي غطت جوانب هامة في هذا المعجم نذكر منها مسرد المصطلحات العربية المستخدمة في هذا المعجم، مسرد المصطلحات اللغوية في المصادر العربية، ومسرد مصطلحات علم اللغة التطبيقي، مسرد مصطلحات علم الأصوات، مسرد مصطلحات علم النحو، مسرد مصطلحات الخطاطة وغيرهم.
إلى جانب هذا ضم المعجم مقدمة تحدثت عن المعالم العامة للخطة التي تم إتباعها في تنسيق مصطلحات هذا المعجم والنظام فيه، حيث تم التحدث عن تمييز المصطلحات، فقد تم الرص في هذا المعجم على التمييز التام بين المصطلحات غير المترادفة، كما وحرص على التوازي بين المصطلحات العربية المتقابلة، مثال: سجع الصوامت Consonance بإزاء سجع الصوائت Assonance، وهكذا.
كما وتم التحدث عن وضع المصطلحات، حيث تم فيه إتباع منهج تفضيل المصطلح العربي القديم على ما عداه شرط انطباقه على المفهوم المراد تعيينه. ولذلك فصل استخدم "الصائب المستعلي" بدلاً من "العالي" أو الضيق، واستخدم المطابقة بدلاً من "التلازم" أو التناسب أو "التوافق".
وإن النظر في المسرد العربي الأول يثبت هذا المنحى في عمل هذا المعجم، ولما كان الغرض الأساسي من هذا المعجم ضبط المصطلحات على قواعد معينة تم اعتمادها في هذا المعجم، فقد اهتم المعجم بشرح كل مصطلح أورده في المعجم منبهاً على تفرعاته ومرادفاته ومقابلاته. وقد التزم بالتوازي بين شروح المواد المتقابلة أو التي تشترك في الاندراج تحت مواد أكثر عموماً. أما إعداد المترادفة فقد شرحها في موضع واحد فسحب، هو الأعم الأشيع، وأحال فيه على سائر المواد، كما أخال في كل من تلك المواد على المرادف المشروح دون غيره.
