يورك، معجم مصطلحات العلوم اللغوية / إنكليزي - عربي، تسابقت دور النشر في الآونة الأخيرة إلى إصدار عدد من المعجمات الفرعية الخاصة بمصطلحات فروع معينة أو مصطلحات ظهرت في أوقات معينة، فكان هناك معجماً لمصطلحات علم اللغة النظري، وآخر لمصطلحات علم اللغة التطبيقي، وثالثاً لمصطلحات علم اللغة الحديث، ورابعاً لمصطلحات علم اللغة المعاصر، وخامساً...وسادساً... وكثيراً ما تتكرر المصطلحات هنا أو هناك... وهكذا.
لذا إرتأى الدكتور السيّد جمع مصطلحات العلوم اللغوية جميعها في عمل واحد، وبين دفتي كتاب واحد هو "معجم مصطلحات العلوم اللغوية"، الذي نقلب صفحاته والمعجم هو ثنائي اللغة / إنكليزي - عربي وهو شامل لمصطلحات العلوم اللغوية بكل ما في الكلمة من معنى، فالقارئ يجد فيه مصطلحات في كل علم من علوم اللغة: وفي الأصوات، وفي وظائف الأصوات، وفي الصرف، وفي النحو، وفي الدلالة، وفي مناهج البحث اللغوي، وفي العلوم البَيْنيّة المتداخلة مع علم اللغة ... إلى ما هنالك من علوم.
لذا يمكن القول بأن هذا العمل يمثل خطوة أولى على طريق توحيد المصطلحات بين الجهات العلمية في الوطن العربي، الذي يمثل ضرورة ملحة في عالم الترجمة في العالم العربي.
