لفلسطين العربية موقع جغرافي إستراتيجي، فهي تقع عند ملتقى قارات العالم القديم الثلاث، بالإضافة إلى كونها تشكل البوابة الجنوبية لبلاد الشام والبوابة الشرقية البرية الوحيدة لمصر وسائر إفريقيا، وقد ساعد ذلك في تعرضها للإحتلال الأجنبي مرات كثيرة من قبل جيوش أمم وممالك مختلفة منذ آلاف السنين وحتى الآن.
فقد احتلتها في التاريخ القديم الجيوش الفرعونية والآرامية والآشورية والبابلية والفارسية والإغريقية والرومانية، وفي القرن الميلادي السابع دخلها الفاتحون العرب المسلمون، وبعد إتقسام وتجزؤ الإمبراطورية العربية - الإسلامية الأولى، دخلت فلسطين العربية في حكم دول إسلامية مختلفة كالدولة الطولونية والدولة الإخشيدية والدولة الفاطمية والدولة الأيوبية والدولة السلجوقية والدولة المملوكية.
وعند نهاية القرن الميلادي الحادي عشر، تعرضت لغزوات العالم الغربي الشرسة التي أخذت شكل حملات صليبية مدمِّرة استمرت نحو قرنين من الزمن.
وفي القرن السادس عشر احتلها الأتراك العثمانيون نحو أربعة قرون متواصلة، وإثر خسارتهم الحرب العالمية الأولى عام (1918) احتلتها بريطانيا حتى عام (1948) حيث سلمتها إلى العصابات الصهيونية لبناء دولة إسرائيل عليها.
تهدف هذا الدراسة بالأضافة إلى قيمتها التاريخية، إلى أبراز كم تعرضت فلسطين العربية للاحتلال الأجنبي على مدى تاريخها الطويل من قبل أمم وممالك كثيرة، مع أعطاء نبذة تاريخية موجزة عن كل واحدة منها، والسعي بشكل رئيسي لإظهار أسماء ملوك وأكاسرة وأباطرة وخلفاء وسلاطين هذه الأمم والممالك، وذكر سنوات حكمهم عندما تكون متوفرة في السجلات التاريخية.
