السمة الرئيسية التي تتسم بها أعمال الكاتبة فدى أبو شقرا عطا الله من حيث الشكل والمضمون أنها موجهة للناشئة، ولذلك فإن "العودة" تدخل في خانة أدب الأطفال وتتوجه إلى قلة عمرية تستحق اهتمام الأدباء والقراء والعاملين في حقل التعليم على حد سواء.
في "العودة" قصة حنين ألهبته سنوات الغربة الطوال، فكان الكفّ القادرة على حفر اللحظات والتنقيب في الذاكرة عن صور لربوع الوطن وملامح أهله ولأصداء ملاعب الطفولة. حنين كان كفيلاً بدفع "زينة" إلى اقتلاع نفسها من أميركا بعد عمر طويل من الغربة لتتنشق عطر الماضي.
وفي "العودة" أيضاً نقع على ثلاث قصص قصيرة في قصة واحدة، لا بل قصة واحدة تمدّك بثلاث تجارب قاسية في مشوار أبطال يعلّمونك، في إخفاقاتهم كما في انتصاراتهم، ضرورة التصدي للحياة لتسلَم فيها.
يوسف، لمياء، وهدى ليسوا مجرد شخصيات تعاني بين دفّتي هذا الكتاب، إنما هم أبطال طوّعوا الحبر ليجسّدوا حالات إجتماعية، يخلص القارىء منها إلى أن الحياة ميدان صراع بين الخير والشر، لا يسلم منه إلا من تمسّك بالفضائل، وتحلّى بالإيمان، واتخذ من الصبر مفتاحاً للفرج.
ولمزيد من الفائدة تضم الكاتبة اسئلة موجهة للقارىء تتعلق بالفهم والتحليل، وفي بناء النص من حيث الأسلوب والوصف والحوار، وفي المعاني، وفي أساليب التعبير، وفي قواعد اللغة والإعراب الهدف منها مساعدة القارىء على إشعال مخيلته وذاكرته في الفهم والإدراك للنص المكتوب.
