"تاريخ المراقد" ، هو أحد روافد دائرة المعارف الحسينية، حيث يتناول في بحث موضوعي وتاريخي مفصل وموثق بالصور، مسار الرأس الشريف للإمام الحسين رضي الله عنه ومقاماته في بالس (مسكنة) أو في الرقة (سورية)، أو في النجف (العراق) أو في البقيع (السعودية) أو في عسقلان، أو في القاهرة، ثم ينقل مؤلفه سماحة الشيخ محمد صادق محمد (الكرباسي) جميع أقوال المؤرخين والكتّاب حول هذا الموضوع، ليعطي سماحته رأيه وحكمه على تلك المعلومات مظهراً الصحيح منها ومعارضاً ما لا صحة أو دليل عليه، لينتقل بعدها إلى موضع عرفانيات المشهد الحسيني في القاهرة، خاتماً بفصل عن تطور هذا المشهد الحسيني بالتواريخ الدقيقة والصور.
إلى ذلك أورد المؤلف استدراكاً في موضوعين: الأول عن المرقد الحسيني في كربلاء الذي يرى سماحته أنه لا بد من مواكبة تطور حركة عمرانه على مدار الزمن ليستوعب الملايين المتزايدة من المحبين المتلهفين لتلك الزيارة موثقاً ذلك بالخرائط والصور، والإستدراك الثاني: عن متحف الإمام الحسين الذي أنشئ حديثاً مرفقاً ذلك بالصور عن محتويات ذلك المتحف المبارك.
