تكتسب دراسة الثورات وتشريح أسبابها، إنطلاقاً من قراءة أهم الثورات العالمية وتحليل ظروفها وأسبابها، أهميتها من واقع الحراك السياسي والإجتماعي الذي شهده العالم العربي منذ نهاية عام 2010 والذي تفجر بموجة من الثورات والإنتفاضات الشعبية والتمردات العسكرية، إمتدت من المغرب إلى المشرق، من تونس فمصر وليبيا إلى اليمن والبحرين وسوريا، فضلاً عن بعض الإحتجاجات في الأردن والعراق وسلطنة عمان والجزائر والسعودية.
لذلك رأينا من المفيد إسترجاع نماذج من الدراسات النظرية حول الثورة ومفهومها ودوافعها وأسبابها، والهدف من هذه الدراسة هو محاولة معرفة لماذا وكيف تحدث الثورات، وذلك من خلال التوصّل إلى القواسم المشتركة للثورات من جهة، ومعرفة الأوضاع السياسية والإقتصادية والإجتماعية التي تعيشها الشعوب الثائرة قبل الثورة من جهة أخرى.
ولعلَّ أبرز هذه الأعمال التي رَجِعنا إليها دراسة الباحثة والفيلسوفة الأميركية - الألمانية حنّة أرندت عن الثورة المعنونة "في الثورة" ودراسة الباحث والمؤرخ الأميركي كرين برينتن المعنوّن "تشريح الثورة"، ودراسة الباحث والمؤرخ البريطاني اريك هوبزباوم "عصر الثورة: أوروبا (1789- 1848)"، وآراء المؤرخ الفرنسي ألكسي دو توكفيل في كتابه "النظام القديم والثورة"، إضافة إلى دراسات أخرى عن الثورات الفرنسية والأميركية والروسية والإيرانية والعربية.
