هذا الكتاب يحاول البحث عن إجابة واضحة وشافية عن هذا السؤال الذي لاح في الأفق: كيف لحسني مبارك أحد أبطال حرب أكتوبر 73 أن يتنازل عن تلك المكانة العالية ويصبح منهما في عدد من القضايا ويصبح في النهاية سجيناً وراء سور مستشفى طرة؟!.. ومن هذا المنطلق، نبحث الأسباب، ونكشف الدواعي، ما بين مشهدين، أول مكانة القاعة الرئيسية لمجلس الشعب، وزمانه صباح يوم 19 فبراير 1974 حيث ينادي "اللواء الطيار محمد حسني مبارك" وكان هذا "البطل" ... الثاني مكانة قاعة محكمة الجنايات بأكاديمية الشرطة، وزمانه صباح يوم 3 أغسطس 2011 حيث ينادي المستشار أحمد رفعت "المتهم محمد حسني مبارك" وكان هذا "المتهم".
وما بين المشهدين فترة من الزمن تعدت ال 40 عاماً، أخذت من حياة حسني مبارك من أسرار وكواليس وتفاصيل وأوراق مجهولة عنه في حياته لشرح الأسباب التي أدت إلى تلك النهاية، وبالتالي فهو ليس سيرة لحياته، لذا لن أظهر الرجل "ملاكاً بريئاً" كما يراه مناصروه، ولن أظهره "شيطاناً رجيماً" كما يراه خالعوه، فقط أظهره "بشراً" يخطئ ويصيب، وبالتالي التزمت الموضوعية والحيادية في الكتابة قد الإمكان، والتزمت الدقة والرصد في المعلومات قدر الإمكان، كله للوصول واكتشاف وفك طلاسم شخصية "مبارك الذي لا يعرفه أحد".
