اعتادت وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية ناسا (NASA) القيام بطلعات مكوكية بحثية استكشافية مستمرة بغرض الرصد والتصوير.
وفي أحد الأيام قامت حملة تحمل الرقم 38 بجولة فضائية باتجاه قارة آسيا، وبالتحديد عند شبه الجزيرة الكورية، وهناك التقط بقياس الإشعاع الطيفي (Midls) منظراً يوضح حالة من الظلام الدامس وقد غطت كل أرجاء ونواحي كوريا الشمالية، فبدت وكأنها نقطة سوداء عبارة عن تكملة للبحر المحيط بها سواء بحر اليابان أو البحر الأصفر، حتى حدود المناطق الساحلية لا تظهر، ولا يوجد سوى وميض نور ينبعث على استحياء من العاصمة بيونغ يانغ، في المقابل ينبعث النور ويسطع بقوة، لافتة من جارتها الجنوبية والصين وروسيا كأنهما يسبحان في الضوء. وبدت أمارات الدهشة والتعجب، وعلت وجوه رواد المركبة الفضائية وقت التقاط المنظر، وتساءلوا دولة مساحتها 47.000 كيلو مترًا من الكرة الأرضية، وعدد سكانها 24 مليون نسمة، كأنها لا شيء ولا وجود لها، لماذا؟! وكيف؟! إنها المرة الأولى التي يرصدون فيه مثل هذا المنظر على مستوى الكرة الأرضية.
لقد نجحت كوريا الشمالية وبجدارة في أن تغلق على ذاتها وتنعزل عن العالم، فأصبحت أكثر الدول غموضاً وأكثر سرية، وبدت في نظر الجميع دولة ديكتاتورية، بوليسية، شمولية، شيوعية، تجمع كل العجائب، وتحوي كل الغرائب، وتشمل كل التناقضات!! فلماذا كل هذا؟! ماهي أسبابه ومبرراته ودوافعه.
