يعد هذا المؤلف المترجم (مقدمة في الاقتصاد الجزئي) من الكتب الدراسية الجامعية المعروفة على نطاق واسع في مادته الاقتصاد الجزئي، وقد اشتملت طبعته هذه على جوانب عديدة من التعديلات والإضافات المتعلقة على وجه الخصوص بفصول نظرية المنشأة واقتصاد الرفاعية. إن نظرة واحدة إلى جدول المحتويات تكفي لإعطاء القارئ فكرة عامة عن الموضوعات التي جرى تحليلها في هذا الكتاب. ويتسم أسلوبه في الغالب بالوضوح والعمق واستخدام الرسوم البيانية في الشرح والتحليل.
ومن سمات هذا الكتاب أنه يبدأ في كل فصل بمقدمة موجزة تبين أهم الأفكار التي اشتمل عليها الفصل المعني. والغالب أن يختم الفصل بتعليقات تبين النتائج المستخصلة وأهميتها وعلاقتها بالفصول الأخرى الواردة في الكتاب.
لعل من أهم ما يميز هذا الكتاب هو الربط الذي قام به المؤلف بين سوق السلع وسوق العمل، فعند مناقشة الطلب على السلع ربطه بمناقشته عرض العمل، وعند مناقشته عرض السلع ربطه بمناقشته الطلب على العمل.
اشتمل الكتاب في الآخر على ملحق إضافي يتناول جملة واسعة ومتنوعة من الأسئلة لغرض الدراسة والمناقشة. ومع أن عدد هذه الأسئلة يقع في حدود 34 سؤالاً وكلنها تكاد تغطي أقسام الكتاب وزيادة. ونعني بالزيادة هنا أن القارئ قد يجد نفسه في حاجة إلى قراءة إضافية توسع دراسته وتزيد معلوماته بالرجوع إلى المصادر الأخرى التي ذكرت بعضها موزعة على أجزاء الكتاب الستة.
أما الهدف من إعداده وإعادة ترجمته فهو سد بعض الفراغ الموجود في المكتبة العربية بخصوص الكتب الحديثة في موضوع الاقتصاد التحليلي الجزئي الذي يعد أساساً مهماً لفهم ما يعرف على وجه الخصوص باسم اقتصاد السوق، ولا سيما بعد التحولات الحديثة التي جرت في الأقطار التي كانت تسير في اقتصادها على أساس ما يعرف باسم الاقتصاد المخطط مركزياً وصارت تنتقل إلى اقتصاد السوق.
