صاحب هذه الرحلة المستر جيمس بيل فريزر رجل مهنته الكتابة وقد قام برحلته عام 1834م، فسافر من استانبول الى ايران بمهمة دبلوماسية وقطع المسافة على ظهر الخيل وأخذ يكتب منها الى وجهته رسائل متتالية فيها الكثير من التفاصيل عن كل ما يرى في طريقه أو يفكر فيه ولهذه الرسائل عدا ما فيها من طرافه أهمية تاريخية لأنها تجلو لنا كثيرا من مراحل التاريخ العراقي في أواخر ايام داود باشا أو اوائل العهد الجديد الذي دخل فيه العراق بعد أن تعاونت الاقدار وجيوش السلطان في القضاء على باشوات المماليك وعهدهم ووضعت حداً لاستقلالهم في الحكم عن الباب العالي في استانبول.
