إن افتقار المجتمع العربي إلى التخصيص اللغوى، أمر يدتدى أهمية خاصة إذ أن إنقاذ ما يشكل قيماً لغوية علمية من الأهمام، لا يمكن أن يتم إلا من خلال البحث العلمى الرصين فى مجال التراث اللغوى من منطلق لغوى حديث ولعلنا فى هذا الإطار من الربط بين تراثنا اللغوى ومناهج البحث اللغوى الحديث نعدم من الباحثين العرب من يولى اهتمامه فى هذا الاتجاه، على الرغم من ندرتهم إلا أننا نجد أبحاثاً الدكتور/ تمام حسان. و الدكتور / محمود عبد السلام شرف الدين. هذه المؤلفات وغيرها تعد إسهاماً جليلاً فى إلقاء الضوء على مدى التقاء الفكر اللغوى العربي القديم أو اختلافه مع مناهج البحث اللغوى الحديث.
إن مثل هذا العمل يعد مطلباً ملحاً، وأمراً ينبغى أن تتبناه المؤسسات العلمية والمجامع اللغوية والهيئات المتعددة المعنية بدراسة تراثنا العربي.
فالجهود التى ذكرناها، قد توصل العديد من أصحابها إلى نتائج جد مهمة، حيث أثبتت بعض هذه الدراسات أن الفكر اللغوى العربي، له فضل السبق فى كثير من القضايا اللغوية ويهتم هذا البحث بالربط بين التفكير اللغوى عند العرب، وبي المناهج اللغوية وبخاصة فى مجالين اثنين.
المجال الأول: ويتمثل فى مفهوم اللغة عند العلماء العرب.
المجال الثانى: ويتمثل فى الجهود النحوية عند العلماء العرب.
