إن درس العربية من الجانب العربي وحده يظل منقوصاً. وأنه لا بد في هذه المرحلة من استئناف النظر، والتبصر فيما بلغه الدرس اللغوي الحديث من آفاق. وتشكل اتجاه البحث من هذا الكتاب ضمن هذا المنحى، حيث عمد الباحث إلى تسليط الضوء على ما جاء في كتب المحدثين من الغربيين، وفي محاضراتهم ومقايساتهم، والذي كان موافقاً عند عناصر كثيرة منه ما جاء عند النحويين العرب، مصرحين به حينا، وصادرين عنه كثيراً من الأحيان. انطلق البحث في هذا المجال، خلال جل مراحله، من خلال رؤية الباحث حول مناهج النظر اللغوي المتشابهة عند مختلف اللغات الإنسانية في العالم وذلك على اختلاف الزمان والمكان والإنسان.
وذلك دليل على تأثير تلك المناهج بعضها في بعض، أو أخذ أصحابها بعضهم عن بعض. هذا وأن الصورة التقريبية التي استوت للباحث ملامحها عن النظرية النحوية تستمد فحواها من مظاهر ثلاث: أمثلة الكلام وكتب النحو وكتب الأصول وتستند إلى التداخل المتكامل بينها. ولعل في هذا البيان عن مشكلة العلاقة بين تلك المظاهر الثلاثة تسويقاً للخطة المتبعة في هذا البحث، حيث أقام الباحث مقابلاته في مواضع كثيرة على أمثلة من معالجات للنحويين العرب قدّر الباحث أن أصولها متلاقية مع أصول في مناهج النظر اللغوي الحديث. وهي مقابلات توازي بين عمل واضعي النحو، وقد قرروا أصولها تقريراً. ويمكن القول بأنه ولا ريب أن وضع النمو العربي في إطار جديد يتقابل فيه القديم العربي والحديث الغربي يسعف في تجديد إحساسنا بالنحو العربي في مفهوماته ومنطلقاته وأبعادة بعد طول ألف به في لفته الخاصة ومصطلحة الخاص ومنهجه الداخلي.
