فشهد العالم منذ بدء القرن العشرين نشاطاً فكرياً متسارع الخطى في جميع ميادينه العلمية والإنسانية، وقد كان للعلوم اللسانية يصيب كبير من ذلك النشاط؛ إذ تطور البحث اللساني عند الغرب تطوراً ملحوظاً في سعيهم من أجل الكشف عن قوانين اللغة وآليات عملها، فاستعانوا من أجل تحقيق ذلك بعلوم لغوية وأخرى غير لغوية، وأضحت اللسانيات ضرباً جديداً من الدراسات اللغوية لا تقتصر على لغة دون غيرها، فالخطاب اللساني وآلياته المنهجية بات يشكّل سمة البحث المعاصر، وخصوصية النظر العلمي الحديث، في حل إشكاليات المعرفة وانعكاساتها على الدرس اللغوي.
إن اللسانيات التي عُدّت هبة العالم الغربي ومعلماً من معالم الحداثة منذ أوقد سوسير مشعلها وضبّ من بعده الزيت عليها؛ لم تكن منجزاً منبتّ الجذور على الماضي؛ لأن النشاط اللغوي الذي يجعل الظاهرة اللغوية موضوعاً له معروفاً في سياق التحول التاريخي للنشاط الفكري الإنساني عبر الأزمنة المختلفة.
فتراث الأمم السابقة غني بالدراسات والتحليلات للظاهرة اللغوية.
إننا في الوقت الذي نقرّ فيه للغرب بما قدّمه في هذا المجال من إنجاز حضاري عالمي إلا أننا في الوقت نفسه نذهب إلى القول بأنّ هذا الإنجاز لا يمكن أن يكون من بدع الغرب ما دام الفكر اللغوي قد شغل الأمم والحضارات قديماً وحديثاً.
وحتى لا تبقى اللسانيات علماً أجنبياً لا يتعدّى دورنا فيه حدود الترجمة والنقل وترديد ما جاء على لسان هؤلاء من أفكار ونظريات تبدو لأول وهلة -للقارئ المبتدئ- وكأنّها علماً غربياً عن لغتنا وبيئتنا؛ من أجل ذلك صار لزاماً علينا أن نبحث عن أصول هذا العلم في الدرس اللغوي العربي يمكن أن تتابع ويُبنى على أساسها نظرة جديدة لما وصل إلينا من نظريات لسانية غربية نعيد من خلالها قراءتنا للتراث.
تحاول هذه الدراسة عرض أهم ما أنجزه الفكر اللساني الغربي من نظريات كان لها صدى مهم في العالم أجمع، ومن ثمّ محاولة النظر إلى هذا المنجز نظرة تأصيلية تبين الأصول العربية القدمى لهذه الأفكار والنظريات ما أمكننا إلى ذلك سبيلاً مستندين إلى حقائق تاريخية مدعمة بالنصوصو، أمدتنا بها التركة اللغوية التي تمثل الجهود الفكرية التي وضعها العلماء العرب القدماء بين أيدينا.
