يتناول هذا الكتاب المجالَ الطبيعيَّ والبشري لمنطقةِ سهلِ تهامة، والتعريفَ بهذه المنطقةِ إبتداءً من تسميتها وموقعها الجغرافي والتضاريس والمناخ والموارد المائية والغطاء النباتي.
كما يتناول تتبعَ نشأةِ مدنِ تهامة ودور القبائل في ذلك، وتعريفٍ أبرز هذه المدن والقبائل التي كانت تقطنها خلال الفترة الخاضعة للدراسة.
ويقومُ الكتاب بعرضِ التاريخِ السياسيِّ والعسكريِّ لمنطقةِ تهامة اليمن منذ دخولِ العثمانيين إليها وحتى خروجهم منها (945- 1336هـ / 1538- 1918م)، والأحداثِ الحربيةِ التي تمَّتْ في مدن تهامة لا سيما المتعلقة، بالإستحكامات الحربية خلال فتراتِ حكم الدويلات اليمينة في العصر الإسلامي، إضافة إلى الدور الحربي للقلاع والحصون اليمنية خلال الفترة (945- 1336هـ / 1538- 1918م)، وخاصة قلاعها والمعلومات التاريخية التي وردت عنها وفق ترتيبها الكرنولوجي كمنشئها وتاريخ بنائها وأقدم ذكر تاريخي لها، والمكونات المعمارية العامة التي كانت تتضمنها.
