هذه المخطوطة هي من تأليف "عرام بن الأصبغ السُلمي" وهو من علماء القرن الرابع وفيه يتحدث المصنف عن أسماء جبال تهامة، وجبال مكة والمدينة وما فيها من القرى وما ينبت عليها من الأشجار وما فيها من المياه. ومع أن ظاهر هذه المخطوطة أنها خاصة بجبال تهامة وسكانها وما يتعلق بها فإن الواقع يشمل الكلام على تهامة والحجاز فنحن نجد أن ما يخص تهامة ينتهي عندما يقرب من ثلاثة أخماس الكتاب، ثم نجد فصلاً معقوداً لحد الحجاز يتناول كثيراً من البلدان والقرى والجبال والمواقع الحجازية المجاورة للمدينة. وهي وإن كان ذكرها جاء تبعاً لذكر تهامة لملاصقتها فإنها ظفرت بنصيب وافر من عناية عرام واحتلت مكاناً أصيلاً من الكتاب وأتت حينما تنتهي إلى خاتمة المخطوطة تلقى هذا النص "ثم كتاب أسماء جبال مكة والمدينة وما يتصل بها" وقد يوحي هذا النص بأنهما كتابان أحدهما لتهامة والآخر لمكة والمدينة وليس الأمر هذا إلا من استطراد "عرام" وإن كلمة كتاب لا تعني إلا ما كتبه من هذه الناحية فإن الأقدمين لم يذكروا لعرام إلا هذا الكتاب "كتاب أسماء جبال تهامة" وعنه ينقل الناقلون والمؤلفون. ولأهمية موضوع هذه المخطوطة عنى "محمد صالح شناوي" بتذييلها بتحقيق لطيف هدفه توضيح ما أبهم فيها وما أشكل من معانيها. كما وألحق الكتاب بعدد من الفهارس العامة التي تسهل على القارئ بلوغ مأربه من الكتاب.
