جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

بدأت الهيجلية في حياة هيجل وبلغت قمتها في برلين، حيث كانت الجماعة الأولى تلتقي في بيت المعلم نفسه؛ فلما مات عام 1831، انقسمت إلى يمين ووسط ويسار (شتراوس، فيورباخ، ماركس)…
ثم هاجرت إلى إنجلترا وأمريكا باسم "الهيجلية الجديدة"، يدور هذا البحث حول روادها في إنجلترا ويناقش في البداية العقبات الثلاثة التي اعترضت طريق البحث، كما يتحدث عن مسار الفكر الحديث، ابتداءً من الثورة العلمية وأثرها على الفلسفة وظهور المذهب الطبيعي، ثم ردود الفعل المتمثلة في كانط والرومانسية.
ثم يتحدث عن "البذور والبراعم" في المدرسة الإسكتلندية... والمبشرين بالهيجلية "جروت" و"جوويت"، كما يتحدث عن الرواد: "سترلنج، وإدوارد كيرد، وشقيقه جون كيرد...".
كما يعالج التيارات التي ناهضت "الهيجلية الجديدة" في إنجلترا وكيف انتصرت عليها... ذلك كله بأسلوب سهل وواضح...
وقد توزع الكتاب في أربعة أبواب على الشكل التالي: الباب الأول: مناقشات عامة؛ الفصل الأول: "عقبات على الطريق...!" الفصل الثاني: "مسار الفكر الحديث"؛ الباب الثاني: "البذور والبراعم"؛ الفصل الأول: "المدرسة الإسكتلندية"، الفصل الثاني: "جيمس فردريك فرير"؛ الباب الثالث: "المبشرون بالهيجلية"، الفصل الأول: "جون جروت"، الفصل الثاني: "ينيامين جوويت"؛ الباب الرابع: "الرواد"، الفصل الأول: "جيمس هتشسون سترلنج"، الفصل الثاني: "توماس هل جرين"، الفصل الثالث: "إدوارد كيرد"، الفصل الرابع: "جون كيرد".
