كانت أزمة الخليج الأخيرة بمثابة ورقة التوت والتي كانت تخفي وراءها العديد من عوامل التناقض والتنافر العربي وكشفت هذه الأزمة أيضاً عن عجز وشلل النظام العربي الراهن... وكذا عن ضعف التركيبة السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية وحتى الأيديولوجية التي رفعتها جامعة الدول العربية منذ عام 1945م كشفت الأحداث وتطوراتها أيضاً عن خلل أساسي في الرؤية المشتركة للأحداث مع عدم وجود موقف ثابت أمام القضايا الأساسية ذات الطابع القومي أو الديني الأمر الذي يعكس عدم ثبوت وحدة الهدف بل تباينه وتعارضه بين الدول العربية خاصة بين الغنية والفقيرة.
لعل من أوضح أسباب الخلل في العلاقات العربية هو غياب المنهج الأساسي في التفكير والتقييم سواء كان دينياً أو حتى علمياً... ومن ثم فقد فقدت الأطراف المتعارضة أية معايير موضوعية واضحة تشير إلى نوع من الوعي والمسؤولية بين أقطاب العالم العربي المتنافر ومكانه. أما على مستوى الشعوب فإن الأخوة كانت واضحة ومؤثرة إلى حد ما... غير أن الاعلام الموجه استطاع أن يحد بقوته من هذا العامل المؤثر القوي.
من هذا المنطلق كان لا بد من فتح ملفات هذه الحرب، وغاية ما يرمي إليه الكاتب هو تقييم الحوادث إيمانياً وعقلانياً، ملتزماً منهاج الحق أقصر الالتزام، واستلزم هذا من الكاتب البحث والتمحيص عما بين السطور، وما وراء الكلمات... وبصورة أخرى عن دوافع الحرب الحقيقية عند أطرافها المتعددة والتي يخجل أصحابها من الإفصاح عنها، كما يخشى ضحاياها مواجهة حقيقة الواقع.
