نشأته
ولد ونشأ في حي ساروجة الأثري بمدينة دمشق – سوريا والذي كان يسمى (استانبول الصغيرة)،الذي كان يقطنه مسؤلو الدولة التركية الحاكمة إذ ذاك- في حارة الورد، بمنزل عربي بالقرب من حمام الورد المشهور، ولا يزال إلى الآن ذلك المنزل قائماً، والده إسماعيل شيخو، وكان يشتغل والده بالتجارة، تُوفي والده في صغره، وأصبح أخوه محمد سليم مديراً للمدرسة الحربية أثناء الحكم العثماني.
دراسته
التحق العلاَّمة الكبير بالمدرسة الرشيدية في الثانية عشرة من عمره. ثم انتسب إلى الكلية الملكية العثمانية بدمشق "عنبر"، ونال عدة ثناءات في العهد التركي والفيصلي في سوريا، يوجد نسخ منها إلى الآن.

قصة تروي ما حصل من وقائع مع الفتى الصغير الدمشقي الأصل السيد محمد أمين. لكن دولاب الزمن يدور و الصغير يكبر و الكبير يشيخ الى أن تنطفئ شمعة الحياة و يغادر حاملاً معه عمله.. و عمله يجره إلى النعيم أو إلى الآلام. و القصة تدور حول بائع الخضار في الحي الذي تعرض بالكلام الرذيل و المنافي للأخلاق لإحدى النساء التي كانت مجبرة على المرور من أمام دكانه فهو الطريق الوحيد المؤدي لبيتها. و كان لا بد من تأديبه و هذا ما قام به بطل القصة مدافعاً عن عرض المرأة المسكينة.
