هذه أوراقٌ لديَّ كتبتُها حين قرأتُ كتاب (المتنبّي وشوقي، وإمارة الشعر) للأستاذ عباس حسن، أستاذ النحو بكلية دار العلوم وعضو مجمع اللغة العربية، الذي عرّف بكتابه أنه "دراسة أدبية رصينة، قوامها الإستقراء الأكمل لآثار شاعرين من أكبر شعراء الطليعة...".
وخيّل إليّ أني سأجد مصداق هذه العبارة في صفحات الكتاب، فلما أخذت أطالع، راعني بل أفزعني أن أجد النقيض التام، فالكتاب هجوم يصل إلى درجة الهجاء على أبي الطيب دون مبرر نقدي، وقد بعُدت عنه التغطية الرفيعة ولم يعتمد على صحيح من الضوابط.
وسيطر عليه الهوى بدل أن يكون بعيداً عن جنف القول، ودلّ على قصورٍ تامّ في الإدراك... سببه أن المؤلف الفاضل، على مكانته العلمية في النحو، وتأليفه فيه كتباً تعدّ من المراجع الهامة في هذا الباب، لم يكن أهلاً لأن يصدر كتاباً للموازنة الشعرية بين شاعرين كبيرين لهما مكانهما الملحوظ، وأنقل هنا عبارة للأستاذ الجليل محمد عبد الغني حسن يقول فيها: "كنت أرجو أن يكون الأستاذ عباس قاضياً في حكمه بما يحمله ضمير القاضي من إطمئنان إلى درس القضية على كل وجوهها وإحتمالاتها".
