لم تعط الدول العربية عبر السنين الكثير من الانتباه لأستراليا برغم أهميتها، كما لا يعرف الكثير في عالمنا العربي عن سياستها الشرق أوسطية. وهذا يعود إلى عدد من الأسباب، من أهمها: توجه العالم العربي التقليدي بشكل شبه كلي نحو الغرب والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، والاعتقاد بأن استراليا ليست دولة ذات أهمية. ولكن التراجع، والانحياز الكبير في سياسة الحكومة الأسترالية، ونمو العلاقات التجارية معها، وتصاعد الدور الذي تلعبه في منطقة جنوب المحيط الهادي وجنوب شرق آسيا، والعولمة، كل ذلك بدأ يدفع العالم العربي لإعطائها اهتماماً أكثر.
لا تمر مناسبة يتم التطرق فيها إلى الشرق الأوسط، من دون أن يكرر جون هاوارد، رئيس الوزراء الأسترالي، وأليكساندر داونر، وزير الخارجية، أن استراليا "مؤيد صلب لإسرائيل" لذلك عمد "علي القزق" في هذه المحاضرة لأن يستعرض سياسة أستراليا الشرق أوسطية، ودور اللوبي الإسرائيلي، ووضع الجالية العربية، ومسببات الانحياز الأسترالي إلى جانب إسرائيل، وكيفية معالجة هذا الانحياز.
