في البند السادس من أول معاهدة مع "الهنود الحمر" دعوة وإلتزام واضح بإنشاء دولة هندية مستقلة، يكون لها ممثلون في الكونغرس إذا شاءت. جورج واشنطن الذي حرض الهنود على توقيع المعاهدة هو الذي دمر هذه الدولة فوق رؤوسهم، وسمم الزعيم الهندي الذي وقعها، بعد سبع سنوات، في معاهدة أخرى مع الشيروكي، دعوة وإلتزام مماثل بإنشاء دولة مستقلة وإرسال ممثلين عنها إلى الكونغرس، إذا شاءت، لكن الولايات المتحدة تناهشت كل شبر من بلادهم وأبادت معظمهم.
نادرة هي المعاهدات الأميركية الهندية التي لا تنص على إنشاء دولة، أو على إحترام حدود وسيادة وإستقلال هذا الشعب الهندي أو ذاك، وكأن دعوة الهنود إلى إنشاء الدولة هي كلمة السر اللازمة لإفتراس ما بقي من بلادهم وأشلائهم، ومن المفارقات ذات الدلالة أن الإسم الوحيد المطروح لهذه الدولة الهندية هو: "كنعان"... وهو الإسم الشائع لفلسطين القديمة.
بعد لهاث مئتي سنة وراء جزرة الدولة وجد الهنود أنفسهم في معازل هي معسكرات موت بطيئ أو شكل آخر من أشكال الإبادة، فهم اليوم الأشد فقراً وجوعاً والأسوأ مرضاً ومسكناً وكساء وتعليماً بين كل الجماعات التي تعيش في بلادهم المنهوبة، وصارت لقمة عيشهم وقفاً على كرم غزاة بلادهم.
هذا الكتاب الفتح هو أول عمل بالعربية وغير العربية يلم بقضية الدولة الهندية ورحلتها من الحلم إلى الكابوس، وهذا ما جعل بحث المؤلف عن مادة هذا الكتاب في أوراق ووثائق عشرة أجيال من البشر أشبه بحفريات علماء الآثار. المؤلف، وهو أبرز الباحثين العرب في الدراسات الأميركية، يكشف هذا الكتاب أن إستحالة قيام هذه الدولة تكمن في "فكرة أميركا" نفسها. إنه يشخص بمنهجية صارمة وتوثيق دقيق وباء الإستيطان، وفواجع الترحيل، وخطر الإستعمار الداخلي، وشراك المعاهدات التي لم تحترم أميركا واحدة منها، ثم يبين في النهاية كيف إن "فكرة أميركا" المنسوخة عن فكرة إسرائيل الأسطورية لا تتعارض مع قيام هذه الدولة وحسب بل تتعارض أيضاً مع وجود أهل الأرض وأصحابها على وجه هذه الأرض.
