يهدف علم السلوك التنظيمي إلى دراسة وفهم السلوك الإنساني في منظمات الأعمال، وذلك بغرض التنبؤ الدقيق بهذا السلوك ووضعه في المسار الذي يؤدي إلى تحقيق أهداف تلك المنظمات. وتزداد أهمية هذا العلم مع تزايد المشكلات التي تفرزها التفاعلات الإنسانية داخل منظمات الأعمال. ومن بين هذه المشكلات: انخفاض الدافع الذاتي للعمل، وغياب روح التعاون بين الأفراد. واندلاع الصراعات، وزيادة كمية الضغوط التي يتعرض لها الأفراد في العمل. ويهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تقديم مادة علمية تساعد الإدارة والعمال على التصدي لمثل هذه المشكلات... ولقد تم ترتيب موضوعات الكتاب في إطار منطقي، يبدأ بالفرد ثم الجماعة وينتهي بالمنظمة. فالفرد هو وحدة بناء الجماعة، والجماعة هي وحدة بناء المنظمة، والمنظمة هي الكيان الكلي الذي ينتمي إليه الأفراد والجماعات. ولقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أجزاء: الجزء الأول: يعالج مشكلات التعامل مع الأفراد. والجزء الثاني: يعالج مشكلات التعامل مع الجماعات. والجزء الثالث: يعالج قضايا التعامل مع المنظمات.
