لا شك في أن الدراسة النحوية التي تقوم على شرح النصوص الأدبيّة، أكثر جدوىً ونفعاً من الدراسات النحوية الصرف إذ أنها ستكون دراسة تطبيقية أقرب إلى حقيقة النحو من دراسته منفصلاً من النصِّ، وذلك أن النحو كان قد وضع لسلامة النص الرفيع ممثلاً في المصحف الشريف، وإن دراسة النحو في ظل النصوص الأدبية فيها إظهار لقواعد النحو فنية قويةً.
ولقد اخترنا نصاً أدبياً عالياً، طالما شغل النحاة واللغويين والأدباء، على مرّ العصور، لشاعر كبير ملأ الدُّنيا وشغل الناس، هو: المتنبي.
وقد اقتضت طبيعة البحث، والمادة النحوية المجموعة، أن يكون البحث على أربعة فصولٍ، يسبقها تمهيد - تناولنا فيه أهمية ديوان أبي الطيب، وكثرة شروحه - وتعقبها خاتمة، أجملنا فيها ما جاء في البحث، والنتائج التي توصل إليها.
