ما هو الإبداع وما هو الإتباع؟ وما هي التقاليد الأدبيّة أو الفنّيّة؟ وهل يوجد إبداع في ظلّ غياب مرجعيّة ما لذلك الإبداع؟ وإن لم يشكّل التراث القوميّ أو تقاليده الفنّيّة تلك المرجعيّة، هل تُستَعار للإبداع الأدبيّ مرجعيّاتٌ أخرى غريبة عن طبيعته؟ ألا يرتبط تراث أمّة من الأمم، في سيرورته عبر الزمن، بفلسفة خاصّةٍ تعبّر عن موقف من الوجود ومن المعرفة ومن الإنسان ومن الواقع؟.
وهل يمكن أن يُنتَج أدبٌ أو فنّ أصيل بإستعارة ما هو غريب عن طبيعة الفكر والثقافة السائدة لدى شعب من الشعوب في مرحلة تاريخيّة - حضاريّة من مراحل وجوده؟ وإذا سلّمنا بأنّ الإبداع الحديث إتّصال بالتراث وإنفصال عنه في آنٍ معاً، أي إنّ علاقة ذلك الإبداع بالتراث هي، بعبارة أخرى، تواصل وإنقطاع، فعلينا أن نحلّل تلك العلاقة الجدليّة لنبيّن كيفيّات تمثّلها: بماذا يتمّ التواصل، وكيف يتمّ إتّصال الإبداع الحديث بالتراث الأدبيّ القديم ويكون حديثاً في الوقت نفسه، ويظلّ ابن عصره وواقعه وبيئته، وعمّا ينفصل؟ وكيف يكون الإبداع من صُلب التقاليد الأدبيّة والفنّيّة ويكون جديداً في الوقت نفسه؟.
هذه الأسئلة هي بعض من المسائل النقديّة الّتي تتناولها بالبحث والتحليل الدراسات العشر الّتي يضمّها هذا الكتاب.
