اتفق الفلاسفة أن وجود الإنسان يتسم بالاغتراب الإضطراب والشر والقلق والعدم، أى أنه سمة أساسية فى هذا الوجود بل إنه الأكثر وضوحاً من بين تلك السمات، وقد رأى هيجل وهو أول من تكلم فى مفهوم الاغتراب أرتباط بين اغتراب الذات و الثقافة، ورأى ماركس أنه نتجة سلبية للظلم الإجتماعى، أما فرويد فقد رأه تعارضاً بين الإنسان والحضارة، وقد كان لكل من الوجوديين والصوفية وغيرهم من المدراس والفلاسفة رأى فى "الأغتراب" كمفهوم، وكذلك فى علاقته بالإبداع الفنى، وهو ما كرس له الدكتور "محمد عباس يوسف" كتابه هذا حيث تناول فى فصوله الثلاثة الاغتراب والإبداع من حيث المفاهيم والأصول وذلك فى فصل الكتاب الأول، الاغتراب من منظور السيكولوجى فى فصله الثانى، والعلاقة بين الاغتراب والإبداع الفنى فى الفصل الأخير، وفيه عرض للاغتراب النفسى عند الفنانين والأدباء ثم الاغتراب والإبداع فى التحليل النفسى وأخيراً من خلال بعض الدراسات مثل دراسة "فرويد" لشخصية "ليوناردو دافنشى) و (دستويفسكى).
