الطريقة الشابية هي إحدى الطرق الصوفية التي كانت لها آثار كبيرة وسعاً وعمقاً مدة نحو أربعة قرون، بالخصوص في القطر التونسي وفي الشرق الجزائري، سواء على المستوى الديني أو الإجتماعي أو السياسي. وقد امتدت خلال القرن العاشر إلى المغرب الأقصى وإلى الشرق الأوسط وتركيا، ولا تزال سلسلة شيوخها موصولة إلى اليوم.
وموضوع هذا الكتاب، هو إلقاء أضواء على جانبها وبالخصوص، لأنه هو الأصل في كل أدوارها الأخرى، وهو الأهم من حيث آثاره، وهو المستمر بلا انقطاع خلافاً للجوانب الأخرى، وهو المجهول عند كثير من المؤرخين للحياة الدينية في بلدان المغرب الإسلامي خلال القرون الأخيرة. أما الجانب السياسي والحربي الذي خاض فيه أفراد من العائلة الشابّية، فلم أتعرض له إلا قليلاً جداً، بقدر ما تمس إليه الحاجة في غاية الإختصار، إذ هو خارج عن موضوع هذا الكتاب.
ويتألف هذا الكتاب من ستة أقسام:
موضوع القسم الأول، هو سيرة مؤسس الطريقة الشابية في القرن التاسع الهجري: أحمد بن مخلوف الشابّي، وبيان لتعاليمه وأسس طريقته، وتعريف بالأعلام الناشرين لها في المغرب والمشرق، وإيراد لبعض نصوصه.
وفي القسم الثاني، توضيحات مسهبة في وجوب التمييز بين النصوص العرفاني والفلسفة، وفي الرد على المفاهيم الخاطئة المتفشية بكثرة حول التصوف العرفاني، وما يتضمنه في مجال التوحيد، وقد كان مؤسس هذه الطريقة من أهله.
وموضوع القسم الثالث، هو كيف تطورت الطريقة على أيدي ذريته، وتسلسل شيوخ الطريقة وآثارهم، خلال نحو أربعة قرون في القطرين التونسي والجزائري.
وموضع القسم الرابع، هو فحص دقيق لكتاب "تاريخ الشابّية" للدكتور علي الشابّي.
وفي القسم الخامس، بيان لأسانيد شيوخ الطريقة.
وفي القسم السادس، تفصيل لأوراد الطريقة.
