ما نهدف إليه في هذا الكتاب هو تبيان من جهة الحاجة الماسة إلى التأويل في فضاء الفكر العربي المعاصر، ومن جهة أخرى حاجة الدارسين والباحثين وخاصة فيما يتعلق بتحليل تعريفاته ومدارسه ومرجعاته المختلفة، وقد اقترن هذا المصطلح غالباً بأهم مسائل تجديد الخطاب الفلسفي في عالمنا العربي في السنوات الأخيرة، إذ تم تأليف العديد من الأبحاث والمقالات العلمية والدراسات المتخصصة، فضلاً عن المحاضرات التي ألقيت في عشرات المؤتمرات والندوات العلمية في مختلف البلدان العربية وحتى الأجنبية والتي نالت في واقع الأمر قدراً كبيراً من الإهتمام والنقاش والجدل بين مختلف إتجاهات الفكر العربي المعاصر.
وفي خضم هذا المخاض الفلسفي، نشأت علاقة وطيدة بين التأويل والإجتهاد، قدمت في الفلسفة العربية الإسلامية مشروعاً تجديداً عبر مراحل زمنية محددة نفخات فلسفية من التأويل والإجتهاد في الفكر الإسلامي، تأصيلاً لهذه العلاقة وتأسيساً لمقاربات تجمع بيت التراث العربي الإسلامي والفكر العربي المعاصر، والتي حاولت أن تبرز تعدد الإجتهادات ما بين إجتهادات دينية، وإجتهادات فلسفية، وأخرى فنية جمالية أو صوفية.
