يرسم خالد حوراني لأوّل مرة بالكلمات بعد أن طال زمن إحترافه الرسم بالألوان، ويختار موضوعاً لروايته هذه، الّتي صارت بين أيدي القرّاء، حكاية البحث الذي أجراه هو معه آخرون عن مصير لوحةٍ رسمها زميله الرسّام سليمان منصور، هي لوحة "جمل المحامل"، اللوحة التي اختفت واكتنف الغموض مصيرها، فصارت أشهر لوحات رسّامها الكبير.
في قصة "البحث عن جمل المحامل"، شكّلت وقائع هذا البحث أساس السرد، وأضفت مخيّلة كاتب الرواية على الوقائع الفعليّة ما جعل السرد رواية رسمت بانوراما أخاذة لما جرى في فلسطين وبلدان عربيّة كثيرة أخرى في زمن البحث.
بالإتكاء على وقائع فعليّة وبموهبته في الرسم، سواء الرسم بالكلمات أم بالألوان، اغترف خالد حوراني من خبرته الشخصيّة في الساحة الفلسطينيّة، وانبع نصيحة من نصحوا بأنّ هذه الساحة تختزن من الخبرات الفرديّة والجمعيّة ما تعجز أيّ مخيلة عن إبتكاره.
