يقدم هذا الكتاب من سلسلة مجلة كتاب المنهاج تصوراً لأربعة انحرافات رئيسية في مسيرة العرب منذ عصر الجاهلية حتى الآن، نتجت عن اختيارات غير صائبة، أدت بمجملها إلى إضعاف الأمة ومنعها من تحقيق أهدافها كاملة، وتمثلت هذه الاختيارات المصرية في ما يأتي: أولاً: طلب السيطرة والقوة بدلاً من تطبيق العدالة بوصفها أعلى قيمة، ثانياً: الإصرار على مثالية الذات والتفاخر بها بدلاً من الموضوعية في تقديم الذات ونقدها. رابعاً: معاملة المرأة بوصفها سلعة وليس بوصفها إنساناً شريكاً للرجل في الحياة الإنسانية لا ترتبط هذه الاختيارات بزمن محدد، بل هي تمتد من عصر الجاهلية حتى الوقت الحاضر، فالتهالك على القوة والسيطرة وكذلك القبلية ومثالية الذات وانتهان المرأة قيم وسلوكيات وجدت قبل الإسلام واستمرت بعده بدرجة أو بأخرى. بعد ظهور الإسلام طرحت العدالة بوصفها قيمة مطلقة، ودعى العرب إلى نبذ قبليتهم والتفاخر بالآباء والأجداد وبالنفس وإلى معاملة المرأة بإنصاف، ولا يزال الاختيار بين السيطرة أو التسلط والعدالة قضية جوهرية بالنسبة للمجتمعات العربية ونظمها السياسية والاقتصادية، كما أن القبلية ما زالت متجذرة في هذه المجتمعات ومؤثرة، بصورة أو بأخرى، في فكر أفرادها وسلوكهم، ولا يزال الإصرار على مثالية الذات والتفاخر بها ظاهرة سلوكية قوية، ولم نتوصل بعد إلى معاملة المرأة بوصفها إنسانة مكتملة الآدمية، وهذه هي الانحرافات الأربعة التي يتم التطرق إليها في هذا الكتاب.
