إن تطور الأمم وتقدمها يرتبط بما تخصصة هذه الدول من مبالغ مالية كبيرة، لغرض إجراء البحوث العلمية، التي تقدم الكثير من الحلول للمشاكل التي تواجه البشرية أو التي تقلل من الكوارث الطبيعية أو الصناعية التي تعايشها الإنسان.
ومن هنا، اهتم العلماء، بوضع أساليب ومناهج تخدم البحوث، إختصاراً للجهد والوقت والمال الذي تستنفذه البحوث.
ومن الملاحظ أن القيام ببحوث علمية في بعض البلدان هي ميادين حديثة؛ مما يتطلب وقتاً لتفهم أساليب ومناهج البحث العلمي، وهذا يحتاج إلى ترجمة الكثير من الكتب، التي تشرح ذلك، أو تأليف الكتب، التي تخوض في مناهج البحث العلمي.
وهذا ما دعا المؤلف إلى الكتابة في أساسيات البحث العلمي، للطلبة والباحثين الجدد، فالفصل الاول تناول مفاهيم في أساسيات مناهج البحث العلمي، ثم تناول الفصل الثاني البحث العلمي في المنهج التاريخي، ثم تحدث الفصل الثالث عن المنهج الوصفي، وتناول الفصل الرابع المنهج التجريبي والمتغيرات التي تضبط التجربة؛ أما الفصل الخامس، فقد تناول العينات التي هي من العوامل التي تساعد الباحث وتسهل عمله، أما الفصل السادس، فقد تناول أدوات البحث العلمي، كالمقابلة والإستبيان والملاحظة.
والفصل السابع، فقد تناول كيفية إستعمال المكتبة، وإستفادة الطالب أو الباحث من ذلك، أما الفصل الثامن فقد تناول تطبيقات تسهل على الطالب أو المبتدئ، على كيفية بناء البحث، وما هي النقاط الرئيسية، التي يجب أن تتبع في كتابة البحوث.
