فى هذا الملف، سنتناول مقاييس قد تكون ذات أهمية بالنسبة لكل مجال من مجالات الرؤية، مثل عندما يتوقف رضاء العميل على إجابات عن عدد من الأسئلة المختلفة عن الاتجاهات الموجهة لأفراد كثيرين مختلفين. وفي أحيان كثيرة تربط أعداد رئيسية المقاييس المختلفة ببعضها على نحو يعبر عن مقارنة بأرقام العام الماضى مثلا، أو مقياس لفعالية التكاليف. والآن سننتقل إلى إلقاء نظرة فاحصة بدرجة أكبر على الكيفية التى توجد بها علاقاتت متبادلة بين المقاييس، وهى مسألة يجب أن نضعها فى الأعتبار عند اختيار المقاييس أو الانتقاء المبدئى لمقاييس محتملة.
ويرتكز هذا الملف على عدد من المعايير وجدنا أنها تفيد فى تقرير ماهية المقاييس الواجب استخدامها: ينبغى أن تغطى المقاييس المستخدمة فى مجملها جوانب المنشأة المدرجة فى الاستراتيجيات وعوامل النجاح الحاكمة، وبدرجة كافية، ينبغى أن تكون هناك صلة واضحة بين المقاييس المستخدمة فى مجالات الرؤية المختلفة. ويمكن أن يقال عن قياس ماأنه تصور المنشأة كما هى أو كما نريدها أن تكون. وينبغى أن تفسر الصورة بأنها تقرير متماسك ومقنع يظهر بوضوح إلى أى مدى تكون المجهودات الموصوفة فى الجزء السفلى من البطاقة (المقاييس) قابلة للتبرير منطقيا من أجل النجاح فى تحقيق المعايير الموجودة فى الجزء العلوى، ينبغى أن تقيد المقاييس فى وضع أهداف يعتبرها المسئولون عن تحقيقها واقعية، يجب أن يكون القياس عملية سهلة وغير معقدة، كما يجب أن يكون من الممكن استخدام القياسات فى أنظمة مختلفة مثل شبكة بيانات الشركة الداخلية Intranet ومستودع البيانات على سبيل المثال.
