إن الاحتفاء بالرواية في شكل من أشكاله، هو احتفاء بالحرية، واحتفاء بالحقيقة المغيّبة، احتفاء بالبشر على هذه الأرض العربية وهم يكتبون تاريخ روحهم وكل ما يمس هذه الروح، إنسانياً واجتماعياً وثقافياً ومعرفياً، لأن الرواية، في وقت يتهمش فيه لجهد خلاق، تغدو المرجع الأكثر دلالة واتساعاً، لتتبع سيرة الإنسان ومسيرته، والمدى الذي وصلته تأملاته وأشواقه ومعارفه، التي تبدأ بعتبة البيت أو ما هو دونها، وصولاً إلى أكثر قضاياه الفلسفية تعقيداً. وفي هذا الكتاب شهادات ودراسات لعدد من روائيين وروائيات ونقاد عرب قدموها ضمن نشاط ثقافي نظمته مؤسسة عبد الحميد شومان في هذا الصدد الذي هو "محور الرواية العربية اليوم". وقد قدم هؤلاء من خلال هذا النشاط الثقافي شهاداتهم الإبداعية والنقدية ورؤاهم في ظواهر تمس الكتابة الروائية في هذا الوقت.
يضم هذا الكتاب ثلاثة عشر شهادة لروائيين وروائيات من تسع دولة عربية هي: الأردن، مصر، السودان، تونس، لبنان، السعودية، سورية، العراق والجزائر. ويأتي استكمالاً للكتاب الأول الذي أصدرته دارة الفنون (أفق التحولات في الرواية العربية-دراسات وشهادات) وهو محاولة لتقديم صورة أوسع للمسهد الروائي العربي، ومناخات أخرى ترفد الرواية العربية اليوم بإبداعات تؤكد تنوعها وتجددها في آن.
أفق التحولات في الرواية العربية، بقدر ما يشير غلى أدق الأمور المتعلقة بالرواية وهاجس كتابتها، يشير إلى تاريخ البشر في تحولاته التي تؤكد الرواية أنها أكثر جرأة واتساعاً من بين فنون الكتابة للذهاب إليه (تاريخ البشر) ومحاورته من داخله. ولعل ذلك الوعي العميق الذي يسكن هذه الشهادات يشير إلى أن الروائي العربي اليوم لا يكتب الرواية فقط بل يتقدم ليكون تنويري مطالع هذا القرن من زمن ليس فيه من النور إلا القليل القليل.
