مما لا شك فيه أن للعاطفة دوراً كبيراً في تحديد سلوك المجتمع المسلم سلباً أو إيجاباً وترك موطن العاطفة مجهولاً أو خالياً مما يشغله ويحركه يدعه عرضه لاختلاس الآخرون والسير به في طريق أعوج أو مجهول العواقب. ولعل المتتبع للأوضاع الاجتماعية وما يدور على الساحة من إشغال لعواطف الناس يلحظ الاهتمام البالغ وسائل الإعلام المرئية والمسموعة والمقروءة بجانب مهم من جوانب العاطفة وهو ما يسمى بالحب، وفي نفس الوقت الذي يصر فيه هؤلاء على أن الحب فقط هو العلائق الزوجية التي تجذب الوعاظ من الدعاة للتعبير عن معان أخرى من الحب وهي حب الله ورسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم دون ما إشارة للتمييز بين هذا الحب أو ذاك، لذلك فقد آثر "عمر سالم الكبيس" أن يكتب في هذا الموضوع انطلاقاً من المعاني القرآنية التي أعطت لكل نوع من هواجس الحب مصطلحاً يتناسب مع وجهته وغايته، وحال هذا البحث أن يعتمد على القرآن في توضيح الصورة وأن يتجنب المصطلح القديم في التعبير عن الحب، فقد عزف عنه الناس لصعوبة ألفاظه ودقة معانيه.
