ان تلك الحملات التي قادها أبناء محمد علي علي أراضي شبه الجزيرة العربية تجاه الدرعية لإسقاطها قد مرت بالعديد من المدن والبلدان, منها ما خضع لهذه الجيوش لقلة عدد ساكنيها وما لديهم من دفاعات, ومنهم من وقف حجر عثرة أمام تقدم هذه الجحافل الجرارة, وكان من تلك البلدان بلدة الرس أكبر غرب إقليم القصيم, والواقعة إلي الشمال الشرقي من المدينة المنورة, والتي عدت كالحصن الحصين أمام هجمات جيوش محمد علي باشا وأبناءه, ولعبت دورا بطولياً برجالاتها الأشداء, لصد تلك الهجمات عليهم, وإبعادهم عن الدرعية.
وقد كان لصلابتهم تلك أثر في تكبيد قوات محمد علي باشا العديد من الخسائر, وتأخير إسقاط الدرعية في إيديهم, وقد أضفي هذا علي الرس نتيجة لذلك أهمية خاصة, جعلتها جديرة بالدراسة والتحليل في ضوء ما توفر من الوثائق, حيث شملت هذه الدراسة ثلاثة فصول وتمهيد: تناولت فيه نبذة جغرافية تاريخية عن الرس والدرعية.
أما الفصل الأول فعنوانه: "الرس وحملة طوسون باشا 1230هـ/1815م" وقد تناولت فيه محاولات الدولة العثمانية القضاء علي آل سعود عن طريق غياله العراق والشام, وفشلها, ثم الاعلان عن حملة طوسون باشا وإعدادها وتحركها, ومعاركها مع آل سعود, ودخول طوسون الرس والمقاومة التي أبدتها تلك البلدة لطوسون وجنوده, إما الفصل الثاني: بعنوان: "صلح الرس بين الإمام عبد الله بن مسعود وطوسون باشا 1230هـ/1815م" , وقد تحدثت فيه عن ظروف عقد الصلح وبنوده, وموقف محمد علي والسعودية والباب العالي منه, ثم نقضه, أما الفصل الثالث: فقد جاء بعنوان: "ارس من حملة إبراهيم باشا حتي سقوط الدرعية 1232هـ/1817م".
وتناولت فيه الإعداد للحملة وتحركها وحصارها لبلدة الرس, ومقاومة أهل الرس ثم الصلح بينهم وبين قوات إبراهيم باشا وسقوط الدرعية ثم عقد مقارنة بين موقف الرس من حملتي طوسون باشا وإبراهيم باشا, وأسباب تغير هذا الموقف في كلاالحملتين ثم أنهيت البحث بخاتمة, وقائمة للوثائق والمصادر والمراجع.
